What does training look like?

I take a functional approach to training. At our initial visit, we will look at your breathing and pressure management, your posture, and your basic movement patterns. As we work together, we will continue to look at those elements and continue to adapt your training program to meet the needs of your body. If you come in one morning and didn't sleep the night before, your body is going to perform differently than it normally would. By the same token if you’ve spent the weekend, indulging with food and drinks, your body may struggle more through certain movements. We take that all into consideration and adapt your training to make it what’s best for your body that day, that move, that time.

We are focused on building a healthy body that is fit and functional for a lifetime. Thus where the name Fit Focused came from.

What if I have never exercised before?

Wonderful! I’m so happy that you’re taking this opportunity to invest in your health. I have worked with plenty of women who are not experienced in exercise, who were nervous to start, and who were unsure how to connect to their muscle and begin the process. We begin with basic movement patterns, moves that mimic your every day motions. Squatting down to pick things up, bending over to grab things, reaching up to lift things. We begin to work on those basic functional movements and develop proper form. That way it will carry over into our every day lives, and we will begin to do those movements like unloading dishwasher, lifting, heavy, laundry, baskets, picking up children and their toys without pain or injury.

What if I am looking to exercise during pregnancy or postpartum?

This right here is what got me started with helping others. There are so many benefits to exercise during pregnancy and postpartum and you can feel so much better in your body if you take the right approach. I am certified as a Pregnancy and Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist, which means I have the knowledge (and experience) working with women during pregnancy and postpartum. Working on a improving a diastasis, prolapse, hip and pelvic pain all include so much more than just exercise moves alone. I take a total body approach helping you to breath better, improve posture, correct muscle imbalances, and strengthen your body overall. There is so much i can say on these topics (checkthe resources tab for more info too)...but reach out to me with your specific needs and we can talk!

What if my goal is to lose weight?

Being at a healthy weight is great for our heart, mobility and overall health. I am happy to help you achieve that goal safely. I often see people who go on crash diets or begin crazy exercise plans only to burn out or get injured. I believe in approaching weight loss functionally. Let’s look at what exercise routine is  realistic for you to sustain over time. Look at what imbalances you have and how those may impact you as you begin exercising. We only have so many hours in the day and so much time to dedicate to exercise. So we look at your lifestyle and how we can incorporate movement into your current routine. By combining functional training that builds strength and burns fat -and looking at optimizing your daily movement we can maximize your results.

What if my goal is to lift heavy?

If you want to lift heavy, excellent! We can get you there. Does that mean we pick up 100 pounds and start bench pressing it tomorrow? No. We take a look at where your body is now. How does it move? How does it handle pressure? How is your form? We do a pyramid approach where we start with our breathing to ensure that we can handle a heavy load. We develop your form. We begin to add loads. And then we get you to your goal! But we don’t do it by hurting ourselves, by pushing too much too soon, because we want to make gains not setbacks.
